Nordic Talents was launched in 2001 by the Nordic Film & TV Fond and its then CEO Svend Abrahamsen in collaboration with the National Film School of Denmark. Since then it has built strong bridges between upcoming talents and experienced professionals in our region. Many celebrated creators say that the real industry networking started at Nordic Talents.
Our appreciated event’s 20th edition will be a digital one. The year 2020 is marked by a pandemic that has forced the industry to develop excellent virtual solutions. These will be made best use of. Digital pitching will be a skill worth mastering in the future.
We have selected fifteen excellent and original projects from fifty inspiring suggestions submitted. Get ready to dive into big global issues, into deeply personal stories, into serious dramas and documentaries, mocumentaries and black comedy series. I would like to thank our devoted and professional jury that will motivate and hand out the awards at the end of the event.
All the major Nordic film schools submitted projects this year, the most active being the Norwegian Film school, which can be seen in the final selection. A reminder to all schools: Nordic Talents is a door to the top industry no graduation student should miss. Upon pitching experiences, there is a lot to bring home.
German entertainment lawyer Christoph Fey created a buzz in February at Berlinale 2020 with his funny and enlightening lecture on international rights in the era of global streaming services. We are extremely happy that he has taken the time to plan a session especially for Nordic Talents. Be sure not to miss it online!
Under these trying circumstances it is a solid safety net to have such flexible and trustworthy partners as Tina í Dali Wagner, not to forget the Fund’s own Project Manager Ann-Sophie W. Birkenes, who keeps all together at our end.
My last thank you goes to all graduation students. Having stepped in as the Fund’s CEO only last November, this is my first Nordic Talents from the inside. Thank you for letting me read your fresh and inspiring suggestions. I know I can speak for all our professional delegates: It will be a pleasure hearing more. Our wonderful, tough industry truly needs your voices.
